Formula & example

The ROAS formula

ROAS puts advertising revenue in relation to ad budget – at campaign, ad-set or account level.

ROAS = ad revenue ÷ ad spend

Example

  • €40,000 ad revenue ÷ €10,000 ad spend = ROAS 4.0
  • Every euro invested returns €4 in revenue – before product and shipping costs.

Next step in the funnel

Is your ROAS good? Your margin decides.

A ROAS of 4 can be profitable – or burn money. The break-even ROAS calculator shows the threshold where your campaigns actually start earning.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which numbers do I need for the ROAS calculator?

Just two: the revenue attributed to your ads (from the ads manager or your shop tracking) and the ad spend for the same period. Optionally add a target ROAS to plan the revenue you need.

Do I calculate ROAS with gross or net revenue?

Consistency matters most: use the same revenue definition you steer with. For decision-making we recommend net revenue after returns – gross ROAS from the ads manager overstates otherwise.

Does the calculated ROAS apply per campaign or for the whole account?

The formula is identical – what matters is that revenue and spend come from the same level and the same period. For steering across all channels, MER is the better metric.

Does the calculator store my inputs?

No. Everything is calculated locally in your browser – no data is transmitted or stored.
